<br />
Even before my little princess was born I felt so much love for her, little did I know how much stronger this feeling would get once I gave birth.<br />
<br />
Ellen Jane was born on January 21th and everytime I look at her, I'm afraid my heart will burst from too much love.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0GchMt8L7Jk/VSPHBowMVdI/AAAAAAAACwE/24Bh8PYxEj0/s1600/Ellie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0GchMt8L7Jk/VSPHBowMVdI/AAAAAAAACwE/24Bh8PYxEj0/s1600/Ellie.jpg" height="226" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
She will be 10 weeks tomorrow and is the cutest little thing. She brings so much joy to the whole family.<br />
Right now she likes to sleep a lot and gives mommy a chance to get things done.<br />
Unfortunately not so much sewing. I don't know how it is in your countries, but giving birth in Germany means a ton of paperwork! Yeah, we LOVE bureaucracy - not so much ;-)<br />
<br />
So far my little girl doesn't own anything sewn by me. I couldn't finish her quilt in time. That makes me sad.<br />
<br />
Oh, I remembered she does own something I made:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RQ7pyuMClKo/VSO-15UTIzI/AAAAAAAACvo/GyZkTXjPDlA/s1600/K%C3%A4ferbody.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RQ7pyuMClKo/VSO-15UTIzI/AAAAAAAACvo/GyZkTXjPDlA/s1600/K%C3%A4ferbody.jpg" height="320" width="242" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Though I made this for my little nephew and it's almost too small by now.<br />
<br />
What I got done:<br />
<br />
I fixed the zipper of the diaper bag I made for my sister almost 2 years ago. The wonderful occasion: She gave birth to her second son exacly 1 week after Ellie was born ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-306Dq2M00VU/VSO7pOvUAdI/AAAAAAAACvc/vYtapfG3tYM/s1600/MariasWickeltasche.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-306Dq2M00VU/VSO7pOvUAdI/AAAAAAAACvc/vYtapfG3tYM/s1600/MariasWickeltasche.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I also made a little thank you gift for my midwife. She was so helpful and I was sad having to let her go. She has this fun baby scale that Ellie enjoyed a lot, but she always carried it in a paper or plastic bag and I thought she needs a proper case for it. And yes, I am finally using my embroidery machine!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zT6fLVIIPng/VSPBJbImVyI/AAAAAAAACv0/yfwiducMlKw/s1600/Waagent%C3%A4schchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zT6fLVIIPng/VSPBJbImVyI/AAAAAAAACv0/yfwiducMlKw/s1600/Waagent%C3%A4schchen.jpg" height="211" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The stitching can be translated as: "Flyweight/Featherweight" and "Bundle of joy". She loved it!<br />
<br />
Thank you all for your lovely comments on my last post! It made me very happy to see someone is still out there reading my blog ;-)<br />
<br />
Hopefully I can show you Ellie's quilt soon. I can definitely make a post about diaper bags. I sewed several by now and I think they are worth showing.<br />
<br />
Have a great week!<br />
<br />
Love, SanaSana Sarotihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04922574934009011846noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2258639421029587227.post-16993354302743259742014-12-12T00:53:00.000+01:002014-12-12T11:16:15.638+01:00Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.~ John Lennon<br />
<br />
I came across that quote not that long ago and I am just starting to fully grasp its meaning.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now, if I told you that I wrote that line one and a half years ago, you'd have to admit there is no denying it.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately that smart man died 34 years ago a few days before I was born. That effected my dad so much that he even considered naming me John if I had been a baby boy. Given that I was born in East Germany that would have been a very unusual name!<br />
<br />
That quote has proven itself as true almost all of my life.<br />
Want another example?<br />
<br />
In May I took two weeks of from work. But instead of going on a long overdue vacation with my husband, I spent the first week preparing for one of my best friend's wedding as her Maid of Honor. The wedding was great! Hopefully I can show you my gift for the couple soon!<br />
By the end of the second week my husband and I finally moved to a new appartment. Not bigger than my old one but so much nicer and cuter. We actually have daylight now and I have a little sewing room!!!<br />
Little did we know that when we signed that contract I wasnt quite alone anymore ;-)<br />
I found out 3 days before the move.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joWLKjydOqw/VIoe-b08MnI/AAAAAAAACro/Qo-4iQvB7ro/s1600/IMG_8493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joWLKjydOqw/VIoe-b08MnI/AAAAAAAACro/Qo-4iQvB7ro/s1600/IMG_8493.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
That photo was taken 3 weeks ago.<br />
<br />
With about seven weeks to go, I'm very happy to have come so far! Contractions started as early as 24 weeks into the pregancy and resulted in my first ever stay in a hospital. The sofa became my best friend/worst enemy. Finishing the new appartment and sewing stagnated for a very long time.<br />
<br />
Weirdly enough I feel the most energetic right now. I could even prepare and take part in a little X-mas bazar last week.<br />
<br />
So, life is what happened<br />
when I was planning on writing more posts.<br />
when I was planning on sewing one wallet per day to sell in my shop.<br />
when I was planning on living in that little new appartment for a while before having kids.<br />
<br />
But life is GREAT!<br />
<br />
34 years after John Lennon died I'm married to a wonderful American, English is almost like my second mother tongue (my husband informed me that you can only have one mother tongue, but I hope you know what I mean) and our child will not only grow up speaking two languages but it will also have an English name and no one will think it's weird!<br />
IMAGINE that!!!<br />
<br />
I've learned not to promise that I'll write soon again, but I can hope and try!<br />
By the way, I wasn't totally gone. I read most of your posts daily on my cell phone through the blogger app but it makes it so inconvenient to leave comments.<br />
<br />
Please excuse my mistakes today! It's dark, my screen is too bright and I have a pregnant brain ;-)<br />
If I went back to spell check this post I might never press that submit button.<br />
<br />
I'll try to go to sleep now. Finding a comfy position is not that easy anymore ;-)<br />
<br />
I'd love to hear from you! I missed you!<br />
<br />
xo, Sana<br />

Thanks to everyone who has not given up on me!<br />
<br />
I wasn't totally gone. I sewed, I tried following your blogs, I had a blast in Disneyworld (more on that later) and mostly I spent my time enjoying my hubby so close to me!<br />
<br />
There are a lot of things I wanna write posts about, but for now, I just wanna say hi. <br />
<br />
This wont be a pictureless post though. My mom and I went to a convention called <a href="http://www.textile-art-berlin.de/startseite/">Textile Art Berlin</a>, yesterday. Lots of great quilts, other beautiful pieces of art made with many different materials and of course fabric to buy!!!<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, you weren't allowed to take any pictures. An exception was the Dutch section. From down the hall we heard people say: The Dutch are cool! They don't mind you taking pictures of their quilts! And so I did:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is my favourite and I think my mom would love something like this above her sofa ;-)</td></tr>

I have a lot of plans and a lot of due bee blocks.<br />
<br />
And in just a couple of days my little sister is gonna be a mommy!!! I am so super excited to become Tante Sandra (yes, the French and German word for aunt is the same). My sister caught the sewing/quilting bug and made the cutest little blanket under my super vision ;-) Here is a little teaser:<br />

<br />
Ok, that was it for today.<br />
<br />Thanks for stopping by and reading.<br />
I missed you all!<br />

I'm still alive and I will try to prove it more often in 2013.<br />
A crazy but good year came to an end yesterday and a great one is about to start. I just know it!<br />
<br />
First of all, the biggest reason why I was so quiet:<br />
I am NOT ALONE anymore!!!! Yay!<br />
In August my husband and I changed plans and decided it might be the better solution for us if he moved here to Berlin. And that's what happened. Two weeks ago, 1 day after my birthday I got to pick up my greatest gift ever from the airport: my beloved husband!<br />
Since then we were extremely busy getting the papers done and everything. He is now allowed to stay here and work!<br />
<br />
Before he got here I spent a good bit of time making room in my smallish apartment! I do wanna move though a.s.a.p!<br />
<br />
Earlier <strike>this</strike> last year I also decided to give up studying Geology. At that point it was making me rather sick than happy and it felt like the last huge obsticle between me and my husband. What can I say: I havent regretted it since. It felt like it was the long needed change in gears and after that so many puzzle pieces fell into place.<br />
<br />
I went to a <a href="http://sana-saroti.blogspot.de/2012/08/coming-to-surface-again.html">market in August</a> and since then I've been selling my self-sewn items in <a href="http://sana-saroti.blogspot.de/p/my-shop.html#h=915-1357074704356">my little online shop</a>. I sold quite a bit before christmas and it makes me really happy. Getting a positive feedback from a happy customer is definitely much more satisfying than science!<br />
<br />
One of my goals for 2013 is to get my little business going, but my biggest New Year's resolution is<br />
<u>TO BE HAPPY</u>!<br />
I definitely have reasons to be happy: my husband is here, I have a little business going and I am gonna be an AUNT! Woohoo!<br />
My little sister announced on Christmas Eve she is gonna have a baby and we all know what that means, right?<br />
Lot's of sewing ;-) Haha! Stay tuned for tons of baby things!<br />
<br />
I hope you all are gonna have many reasons to be happy, too!<br />
Love,<br />
Sana<br />

<br />
I made my first iPad case. I used this tutorial over <a href="http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?p=1343">here</a> mainly for measurements. Hopefully it fits, since I dont own an iPad to try it out.<br />
This was my first commission by a total stranger. You would think I'd expect strangers to conatct me if I hand out my business cards but well, I didnt ;-) It was a total shock!<br />
<br />

<br />
Just love that chocolate brown polka dot fabric in combination with just any bright color!<br />
<br />
Speaking of chocolate, thank you all so much for your lovely comments on my last post! The last time I got so many comments I was giving away chocolate ;-)<br />
If there was a question in your comment, I will get to it soon. Promise!<br />

<br />
<div align="center">

<br />
Well, I finally did it! Woohoo!<br />
Over the last couple of weeks I sewed all those 5" squares together.<br />
<br />
In case you don't remember, this photo of mine was my color palette inspiration:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/67140050@N07/6160370967/" title="water lily color palette von Sana Saroti bei Flickr"><img alt="water lily color palette" height="361" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6152/6160370967_8ca05778ae.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
And here it is. I used the last bit of daylight for a little outdoor shooting.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/67140050@N07/8131953658/" title="DSQ finished Top von Sana Saroti bei Flickr"><img alt="DSQ finished Top" height="375" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8056/8131953658_cac1f7b714.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I'm planning on quilting it with orange peels. I saw it <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2012/03/orange-peel-quilting-on-a-grid.html">here</a> and immediately knew this was the right design for the Water Lily Quilt. With my new toy FMQ shouldn't be a problem anymore ;-)<br />
<br />
Maybe I can do it before christmas (2013, 2014, 2015 ;-)<br />

<br />
Say hello to (well, I dont have a name yet) - maybe Pfaffy the magic machine ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Mzl7o3lvi0/UIQB0grw9UI/AAAAAAAACM8/8iVAR4DAlEs/s1600/101_0854.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Mzl7o3lvi0/UIQB0grw9UI/AAAAAAAACM8/8iVAR4DAlEs/s400/101_0854.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Yesterday, I went sewing machine shopping (Woohoo!!!)<br />
I havent been this excited in forever! I told everybody about it all week long, whether they wanted to hear it or not. I know that you all know what I'm talkig about ;-)<br />
<br />
I wanted a machine that I can use for quilting, sewing heavy duty stuff like leather or several layers of fabric, lining, viline ...and I wanted decorative stitches!<br />
<br />
This one seams to have it all for a reasonable price. It helped that I got a bonus from work for being with the company for 10 years already (I still cant believe it).<br />
<br />
When I got home and studied the manual I was a bit bumped out at first that my version didnt have any alphabete stitches, but hey, who needs alphabete stitches anyways ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CLRrb_l7kOU/UIQJowDo5CI/AAAAAAAACN0/Q2AsOtRWlg8/s1600/101_0862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CLRrb_l7kOU/UIQJowDo5CI/AAAAAAAACN0/Q2AsOtRWlg8/s400/101_0862.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to do FMQ so bad. Last Sunday, I had a chance to try at my first meeting with the <b>Berlin Modern Quilt Guild</b> (more on that later).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PN7onbnH1Hw/UIQJ0P5PN-I/AAAAAAAACOA/Y1Bl4ZTMVG8/s1600/101_0864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t3xy8yhTDoo/UIQJ9OYWEcI/AAAAAAAACOI/KMxKp3nuG40/s1600/101_0858.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t3xy8yhTDoo/UIQJ9OYWEcI/AAAAAAAACOI/KMxKp3nuG40/s320/101_0858.JPG" width="320" /></a><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PN7onbnH1Hw/UIQJ0P5PN-I/AAAAAAAACOA/Y1Bl4ZTMVG8/s320/101_0864.JPG" width="239" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I DO love those cute stitches. They will be great for little purses and pouches - even on quilts, mug rugs etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e_f0l6psHsY/UIQJSEjPpWI/AAAAAAAACNk/aBW3LVXwkro/s1600/101_0857.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e_f0l6psHsY/UIQJSEjPpWI/AAAAAAAACNk/aBW3LVXwkro/s400/101_0857.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
But wait!<br />
There is more!<br />
Yes, another box! It's still not open, cause I dont think I can handle two much new things at once. For now I am happy playing with the Pfaff! I have an appointment at the store in November when I will learn about what's in the box ;-) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkPtRv0-cG8/UIQJFZ_KmLI/AAAAAAAACNc/9iukt4aYU0M/s1600/101_0855.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkPtRv0-cG8/UIQJFZ_KmLI/AAAAAAAACNc/9iukt4aYU0M/s320/101_0855.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Thank you all for being there and for commenting on my (lately oh so rare) posts. Sorry, if I havent replied to your sweet comments. I try to be better!<br />
I also made a lot latey, but dont find the time to post about it :( and dont have time to read blogs and leave comments. I wish my day had 48 hours and I had more energy! It doesnt help that it gets dark so soon now.<br />
<br />
Have a great week,<br />

Tschuldigung ;-) War ganz ohne Absicht.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://nahtzugabe.blogspot.de/2012/09/wintermantel-sew-along-in-10-wochen-zum.html"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OCOUkjS-bVo/UG35CGsrLjI/AAAAAAAACL0/Orllejcod6w/s200/Wintermantel+sew+along.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VbKa-ipv8fM/UG3m9Fq7aUI/AAAAAAAACK4/LKKsn6dNeZA/s1600/Wintermantel+Stoffwahl3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VbKa-ipv8fM/UG3m9Fq7aUI/AAAAAAAACK4/LKKsn6dNeZA/s400/Wintermantel+Stoffwahl3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YIoM0zgvy84/UG3uGaV_uII/AAAAAAAACLU/lZYf1hcfdLU/s1600/Wintermantel+Stoffwahl1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YIoM0zgvy84/UG3uGaV_uII/AAAAAAAACLU/lZYf1hcfdLU/s400/Wintermantel+Stoffwahl1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ratet mal, welches Sternzeichen ich bin ;-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sNrtYHXYLKU/UG3uNYbNefI/AAAAAAAACLc/-_4VeCrQu-k/s1600/Wintermantel+Stoffwahl2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sNrtYHXYLKU/UG3uNYbNefI/AAAAAAAACLc/-_4VeCrQu-k/s400/Wintermantel+Stoffwahl2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aha!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ich verlinke mich heute bei <a href="http://nahtzugabe.blogspot.de/2012/09/wintermantel-sew-along-3-stoffwahl.html">Lucy</a>.</div>

If you wanna read something in English, go to <a href="http://sana-saroti.blogspot.de/2012/09/i-am-back.html">my post from yesterday</a>. It's much more worth seeing anyways since there are lots of pics ;-)] </i><br />
<br />
<br />
Aber: eins nach dem anderen ;-)<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.burdastyle.de/chameleon/mediapool/thumbs/f/10/135-1012-B_300x400-ID273666-d53751363ad010cbe22d81147462ecd4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.burdastyle.de/chameleon/mediapool/thumbs/f/10/135-1012-B_300x400-ID273666-d53751363ad010cbe22d81147462ecd4.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.burdastyle.de/burda-style/heft-katalog/kurzmantel-designerschnitt-strenesse-burda-style-10-2012_pid_678_8369.html">Quelle</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.burdastyle.de/chameleon/mediapool/thumbs/e/47/Duffle-111-1111-B_300x400-ID246677-d1bfa482358a7d51f693dd8a4bb4a08b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.burdastyle.de/chameleon/mediapool/thumbs/e/47/Duffle-111-1111-B_300x400-ID246677-d1bfa482358a7d51f693dd8a4bb4a08b.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.burdastyle.de/burda-style/heft-katalog/dufflecoat-kapuze-burda-style-11-2011_pid_564_6551.html">Quelle</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Soviel zum Schnitt also.
<br />
Heute bei <a href="http://cat-und-kascha-rote-tupfen.blogspot.de/2012/09/wintermantel-sew-along-teil-2-das.html">Catherine</a>.<br />

This post is dedicated to summer who is about to leave the stage and make room for a (hopefully) sunny and colorful autum.<br />
<br />
A few weeks ago, my mom and I stormed a travel agancy and requested the following: sun, beach and cheap ;-)<br />
<br />
On the 18th we flew to Mallorca (I also found Majorca) and returned on Tuesday.<br />
The hotel was cheap!!! (Turned out to be a hostel, but let's not talk about it.) But we had the beach in front of the door, beautiful weather and the first sunburn in two years ;-)<br />
Here are a few impressions:<br />

There is gonna be another post today or tomorrow that will only be in German. Apologies to most of you. It's for a Winter coat-Sew-Along, but it's all in German.<br />
<br />
The next post in English will come sooner than you might think ;-)<br />

My deadline was last Saturday. This was when I attended my first real market to sell my bags and pouches etc.!!!<br />
I had a try at this almost exactly 2 years ago, but it was just for fun: no market fee (just a cake), I had cell phone bags, tiny cosmetic bags and ear rings - the table looked rather empty. I had one real customer + some family and friends ;-)<br />
<br />
This time it had to be different - more professional!<br />
The setting was a local street fair in the neighborhood. Two months ago a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to join her at the market. She was gonna go there to promote her outdoor-fitness program for young mothers with babies in buggies. Conveniently enough her husband has a company that sets up stands at big trade fairs and exhibitions. He provided us with tables and everything.<br />
<br />
Well, I had a blast!<br />
Till Saturday we couldn't be sure of how the weather was gonna be, but the Weather God was gracious! Perfect market weather: not too cold and not too hot. It started to rain 5 min after we had packed up and left ;-)<br />
<br />
For weeks I was planing, stocking up on material, deciding of what to sew, cutting fabric, bringing it over to my mom's who was the biggest helper by ironing all the volume fleece and interfacing onto the fabric!!! I love my Mama!<br />
<br />
So here is what kept me from blogging for so long:<br />

I can tell you I had no expectations before, but I sold quite a bit and have some special orders to make now. It was totally worth the lack of sleep, the tired legs and self-imposed blogging prohibition. I am thrilled!!!!<br />
<br />
I will be back now more frequently. I have quite a bit of catching up to do with bee blocks. And I have several posts planed.<br />
I hope I didnt have more people worried! Thank you Lynne for asking again!<br />
<br />
See ya,<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6I9za52GMIQ/T_nXZ6uRfZI/AAAAAAAACGE/mBzmud2cvGo/s1600/Blue+Bonnets0b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6I9za52GMIQ/T_nXZ6uRfZI/AAAAAAAACGE/mBzmud2cvGo/s400/Blue+Bonnets0b.jpg" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
It started with a pack of seeds that I couldn't resist to buy at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on my way home in January. I gave it to my mom as a souvenir and she planted them in a big pot on her balcony. We had no idea if it worked, cause it was kind of late and our climate is nothing like Texas, but eventually some seedlings came out ;-)<br />
<br />
There was some stagnation in the growing process due to the weather, but last week there was the first hint of blue like in the picture above.<br />
Yesterday, we found this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KUI-h_1W9sg/T_nXeizLGqI/AAAAAAAACGc/ymzvL3Mv4Kc/s1600/Blue+Bonnets5b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KUI-h_1W9sg/T_nXeizLGqI/AAAAAAAACGc/ymzvL3Mv4Kc/s640/Blue+Bonnets5b.jpg" width="464" /></a></div>
<br />
I am so happy to have something from my second home in Texas here in my home town Berlin!!!<br />
<br />

Well, here in Germany I've only got 15 min left ;-)<br />
<br />
So, I am gonna make it quick. Maybe I will have to do some editing tomorrow.<br />
<br />
I made this bag for myself when I was trying out the camera bag pattern "Fotobella" I was gonna use for my friend's diaper bag.<br />
I've bought this fabric quite a while ago - just for myself. I fell in love with it right away and knew this was gonna be MY bag one day ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--GXkmdIWMzI/T_S68t1xiiI/AAAAAAAACF4/sh_3Qd0NXkg/s1600/Fotobella+Sana2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--GXkmdIWMzI/T_S68t1xiiI/AAAAAAAACF4/sh_3Qd0NXkg/s640/Fotobella+Sana2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1AT8nhwD72o/T_S6llLVLMI/AAAAAAAACFw/5UcNwpFhpNE/s1600/Fotobella+Sana+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1AT8nhwD72o/T_S6llLVLMI/AAAAAAAACFw/5UcNwpFhpNE/s640/Fotobella+Sana+front.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric is called "Miss Liber-T" ;-) Sooooo cute! The lining is my most favourite red polka dot fabric you can find in the little detail shots:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zk-fVckE5DE/T_S6WDSWGDI/AAAAAAAACFo/OYE61KG9izM/s1600/Collage+Fotobella+Sana3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zk-fVckE5DE/T_S6WDSWGDI/AAAAAAAACFo/OYE61KG9izM/s640/Collage+Fotobella+Sana3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Thanks everybody for your lovely comments on my last post (actually on all of my posts).<br />
Please keep it up, cause you make my day!!!<br />

I'm sure most if you know what I mean.<br />
<br />
By my standards I was pretty busy sewing and got quite a few things done.<br />
I have to admit this mosaic includes things I've made at the end of April, in May and in June, but it's also missing one bag I am gonna show tommorow ;-)<br />
<br />
So, here we go:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vUOPg56j08o/T_K3S6-a_mI/AAAAAAAACFY/MQDBpTpW17o/s1600/Fresh+Sewing+Day+July2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vUOPg56j08o/T_K3S6-a_mI/AAAAAAAACFY/MQDBpTpW17o/s640/Fresh+Sewing+Day+July2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I am pretty pleased and hope I can keep it up.<br />
For possible visitors coming over from Lily's: welcome and make yourself at home!<br />
<br />
<div align="center">

<br />
Firts I was (and I still am) busy sewing little things. Cell phone pouches are pretty popular right now and I think I need to buy a whole role of that Berlin Skyline ribbon. Everybody is asking for it ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4P7whOo8EAU/T-9gdTbIFMI/AAAAAAAACE4/CHqsiVZofXY/s1600/Little+Gifts+June2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4P7whOo8EAU/T-9gdTbIFMI/AAAAAAAACE4/CHqsiVZofXY/s640/Little+Gifts+June2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I finally found a fabric flower style I liked. Surprisingly enough I've known this folding technique since I was a little girl. I loved to fold fabric napkins like this. I just folded two 5"-fabric squares and stacked them on top of each other. Let me know if you want a tutorial.<br />
<br />
Last Sunday I went to a very happy place ;-)<br />
A couple of times a year there is a GIGANTIC fabric market in Potsdam (close to Berlin). So far, I've always missed it. This time it has been in my calendar for months ;-)<br />
My lovely little sister happens to live in Potsdam and she and later on her boyfriend were brave enough to join me. Before I went I gave myself a budged and left my debit card at home ;-)<br />
So, this is what I came home with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aInuUzFINeY/T-9l_1zNJGI/AAAAAAAACFE/i_B9Z-SVHLo/s1600/Stoffmarkt+Potsdam+Ausbeute.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aInuUzFINeY/T-9l_1zNJGI/AAAAAAAACFE/i_B9Z-SVHLo/s640/Stoffmarkt+Potsdam+Ausbeute.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Almost everything was on my wishlist. Bottom left is a whole new collection and will become at least one diaper/camera bag. The pic next to it shows some jerseys which I want to turn into some shirts for myself. The middle pic on the right are quilting fabrics: two white on white prints I have been happily using for the June-block of my Scrappy? Sew Bee It! - bee:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UZzkx01YkVI/T-9m5NA57II/AAAAAAAACFM/HjBSiVYgcBY/s1600/Scrappy+Sew+Bee+It+June.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UZzkx01YkVI/T-9m5NA57II/AAAAAAAACFM/HjBSiVYgcBY/s400/Scrappy+Sew+Bee+It+June.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I will show you the whole block once it arrived safely in Sweden.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l623/ellisonlanequilts/summersewing125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l623/ellisonlanequilts/summersewing125.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The last couple of days I kept telling myself that I really wanted to take part at the <a href="http://ellisonlane.blogspot.de/2012/06/summer-sewing-contest-link-up-open-now.html">Summer Sewing Contest </a>over at Ellison Lane's, but I knew I needed to write a post first ;-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's probably too late anyways since the Linky is gonna close in just a couple of hours, but I've been dying to show you a diaper bag that I just made for my best friends second baby. And now I have a good reason!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That pattern I used is called <a href="http://www.farbenmix.de/shop/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=10655">Fotobella</a> by (again) jolijou. It's actually meant to be a camera bag, but a lot of people use it as diaper bag as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, here we go:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bntK34imE40/T95ofpA8EPI/AAAAAAAACD4/BlGOTrjiAOA/s1600/Collage+Jules+Diaper+Bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="462" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bntK34imE40/T95ofpA8EPI/AAAAAAAACD4/BlGOTrjiAOA/s640/Collage+Jules+Diaper+Bag.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before I knew that the baby carriage was gonna be grey and pink I had bought some of those fabrics thinking they might look good together. Then I showed them to my best friend and she thought it was perfect and also needed a new diaper bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made a trial one for myself, but I think I'm gonna safe that one for July, 4th. You will know why once you see it ;-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On my trial one I used piping for the first time. On this one I made my own piping for the first time!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-scZojASgwkk/T95p5uTltiI/AAAAAAAACEE/aYFBXr-_Q-k/s1600/03062012982.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-scZojASgwkk/T95p5uTltiI/AAAAAAAACEE/aYFBXr-_Q-k/s400/03062012982.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pattern doesn't call for those inside pockets, but I've seen them in almost every diaper bag.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kld60mLE6hA/T95qWoSKZMI/AAAAAAAACEM/z4vpJOr-s5U/s1600/03062012977.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kld60mLE6hA/T95qWoSKZMI/AAAAAAAACEM/z4vpJOr-s5U/s400/03062012977.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The little round pockets are originally meant to carry the easy to loose lens cap, but I'm sure I mommy will find good use for them, too.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DzrbYWA6168/T95rPdtp7JI/AAAAAAAACEU/SlSTlWDgwRg/s1600/03062012987.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DzrbYWA6168/T95rPdtp7JI/AAAAAAAACEU/SlSTlWDgwRg/s320/03062012987.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BbiSTwexYiE/T95rXnEEL1I/AAAAAAAACEc/-yBJ3pm7kC0/s1600/03062012991.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BbiSTwexYiE/T95rXnEEL1I/AAAAAAAACEc/-yBJ3pm7kC0/s320/03062012991.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I patted the bag with Thermolam (not sure if this is the English name for it), the same stuff you can use for pot holders not to burn your hands.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Although it took my about 20 hours to make this bag, I really like this pattern and I will probably make more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I actually did get a bit of sewing done lately. I'm gonna spread the beauties over a few posts though just in case my productivity goes back down to it's normal level ;-)<br />
<br />
Here is a cute little something I finished at the end of May. They were supposed to be a birthday gift for last May, but then something went wrong, I threw them in the corner, lost inspiration and a year went by...<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/67140050@N07/7181615477/" title="Apple pot holders von Sana Saroti bei Flickr"><img alt="Apple pot holders" height="531" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7075/7181615477_69b0658252.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Well, I dug them out again and finished those cute little pot holders. My aunt loved them ;-)<br />
My mom is a super pot holder model ;-) Did you know you could have that much fun with pot holders?<br />
<div style="color: #999999;">
<br />
<div style="color: black;">
To make them I used the <a href="http://www.farbenmix.de/shop/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=10717">FreEBook "Granny Smith"</a> by jolijou. It is even available in English! </div>
<div style="color: black;">
<span style="color: #999999;">Das Schnittmuster ist das <a href="http://www.farbenmix.de/shop/product_info.php?language=de&products_id=10717">FreeBook "Granny Smith"</a> von jolijou und gibt es bei Farbenmix.</span></div>
<br />
I have also joined two bees. For <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/scrappysewbeeit/">Scrappy? Sew Bee It!</a> I finished the first block that was due in May (upsi). I never had to sew anything like it, but I love how it turned out and I'm still wondering if I should choose that block for when I'm Queen Bee in August.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/67140050@N07/7362883842/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Stargazing block for May von Sana Saroti bei Flickr"><img alt="Stargazing block for May" height="320" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7234/7362883842_b3f1001389.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For June, we were asked to make a <a href="http://delawarequilts.com/BOMs/LogCabin/index.html">Log cabin block</a>. Another first for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #999999;">Im Juni nähen wir alle (16 Ladies) den </span><a href="http://delawarequilts.com/BOMs/LogCabin/index.html" style="color: #999999;">Log-Cabin-Block.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The other bee is called <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1978177@N23/pool/">Star of Africa</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #999999;">Meine zweiter Quilt-Bee heißt Star of Africa.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1978177@N23/%0A%0A" title="Star of Africa"><img alt="Star of Africa" src="http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o537/Fabraholic/125px-Afrikan_tahti.jpg" style="border: none;" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1978177@N23/%0A%0A" title="Star of Africa"></a>We are trying to travel around the world by making a block each month that represents our country. It can be the same block each month. The Queen just decides on color scheme and size.<br />
<div style="color: #999999;">
<br />
If I am not reading your posts or commenting as much, you can blame it on those very chatty flickr groups ;-) The moment I'm turning my back on them they post a billion things that I have a hard time catching up with ;-)<br />

I have always seen and admired the wonderful things bloggers had sewn for themself, but unfortunately I dont do that very often (sewing for myself that is). Lately though I have been pretty good to myself ;-)<br />
<span style="color: #999999;">Schon ganz ganz lange wollte ich mal bei <a href="http://cat-und-kascha-rote-tupfen.blogspot.de/2012/05/me-made-mittwoch_30.html">Cat's Me Made Mittwoch</a> mitmachen.
<br />
I made my first shirt!!!<br />
<span style="color: #999999;">Ich habe mein allererstes Shirt genäht!!! </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PvSG460Lk3M/T8Z0TqPREkI/AAAAAAAACDg/ms8t56FctRs/s1600/Shelly1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PvSG460Lk3M/T8Z0TqPREkI/AAAAAAAACDg/ms8t56FctRs/s400/Shelly1.jpg" width="301" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a pattern called <a href="http://www.farbenmix.de/shop/Neues/Shelly-Kreativ-Ebook::10987.html">"Shelly"</a> by <a href="http://jolijou.blogspot.de/">jolijou</a>, which is very popular in the German self made blogging community right now. It was much easier than I thought it would be and no problem that I dont own an overlock machine!<br />
Cause I didnt trust myself I used mispurchased jersey that I would not shed a tear over if something went wrong.<br />
<div style="color: #999999;">
</span><br />
<br />
What can I say? I LOVE my trial version ;-) and others will follow!!!<br />
<span style="color: #999999;">Aber was soll ich sagen?

Woohoo!!! </span></b><br />
<br />
Like I wrote in one of my last <a href="http://sana-saroti.blogspot.de/2012/05/ttt-firsts.html">posts</a> this is my year of firsts.<br />
Another one has just come up:<br />
<br />
I've joined a Quilting Bee!!! Woohoo!<br />
It's called "Scrappy? Sew bee it!"<br />
<br />
<a href="http://maylifeonline.blogspot.de/2012/05/scrappy-sew-bee-it-may-theme.html">May of Confessions of a Fabroholic</a> is organizing it and she is (fitting enough) Queen Bee in May ;-)<br />
So far, we are only 4 Bees: <a href="http://maylifeonline.blogspot.de/">May</a>, <a href="http://quiltar-och-silver.blogspot.de/">Annika</a>, <a href="http://greycatquilts.blogspot.de/">Jeanne</a> and me.<br />
<br />
May chose the beautiful Stargazing block from Modern Blocks, baiting me with this picture:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eLguyWttmWs/T3H_1_g4AHI/AAAAAAAABXk/MjzleT6JpJY/s400/IMG_2562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eLguyWttmWs/T3H_1_g4AHI/AAAAAAAABXk/MjzleT6JpJY/s400/IMG_2562.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This picture is the property of <a href="http://fluffysheepquilting.blogspot.de/2012/04/drinking-finish-along-kool-aid.html">Cindy from Fluffy Sheep Quilting</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
For now each of us is sewing 3 blocks of each design, but if you joined us, it would be a greater variety and even more fun, right?<br />
So, ladies? Don't you wanna join us? I would be thrilled if you did! <b>Please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top?</b><br />
<br />
Hope you are all going to have a great week!<br />
<br />

Everybody else: Have a great Sunday, too!</div>Sana Sarotihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04922574934009011846noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2258639421029587227.post-49498657085680359982012-05-04T00:45:00.000+02:002012-05-04T00:49:46.443+02:00TTT - FirstsI decided that this year is gonna be the year of a lot of firsts (I know that that word doesnt exist, but it fits so nicely).<br />
First time doing things.<br />
First time seeing things.<br />
<br />
I'm sure I am forgetting things, but here is all the firsts of 2012 so far:<br />
<br />
First time hosting a giveaway.<br />
First time taking part in a swap (nope, the charms still havent arrived).<br />
First time making a Sorbian Easter Egg.<br />
First time sewing a shirt! (pictures will follow)<br />
<br />
Within the last couple of weeks I had some first time bird watching experiences:<br />
<br />
Pigeons were nesting right in front of my kitchen window and for the first time in my life I saw a baby pigeon. I was always wondering if there is such thing as a baby pigeon cause although I live in a city full of them I had never seen little ones:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-36hnpQd3CwM/T6MA9BD1WSI/AAAAAAAACB0/7Nac1Divkqw/s1600/Taube+Mama+Kind.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-36hnpQd3CwM/T6MA9BD1WSI/AAAAAAAACB0/7Nac1Divkqw/s320/Taube+Mama+Kind.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><b>Common Wood Pigeon</b> (<i>Columba palumbus</i>)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Last weekend I saw that kind of bird for the first time:<br />
<br />
It's a Cormorant or Sea Raven<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/XEVfO6OaFyY?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He was so funny defending is little spot against the seagulls.</div>
<br />
Unfortunately this year is also gonna be the year of a most unwelcome second! I am not going into detail here, but this is the reason why I have been a bit blog lazy and why I didnt comment as much lately. I wanna sew so many things, but I might loose inspiration once in a while. I would love to ask you to keep my family in your thoughts.<br />
<br />
Anyways, those bad news caused me to do another crazy thing for the first time in my life:<br />
I kidnapped my mom and spent wonderful three days with her at the Baltic Sea. I booked the hotel Thursday night and we left on Sunday following a nice birthday party for her. She had no clue ;-)<br />
I felt really brave and we weren't disappointed! The hotel was lovely and right at the beach.<br />
Here are a few impressions:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-phkRUkP_oJU/T6MGutvmFOI/AAAAAAAACCA/UJS2wOafdzc/s1600/Usedom1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-phkRUkP_oJU/T6MGutvmFOI/AAAAAAAACCA/UJS2wOafdzc/s400/Usedom1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>

<br />
Thanks to all of you who entered. I got two new followers! So I guess, chocolate was the perfect bait ;-)<br />
I don't know what I wrote that made you think it was my birthday. It must be the language barrier and my hubby told me, too, that people could be confused by what I wrote.<br />
My b-day is in December, but thanks for the belated birthday wishes anyways ;-)<br />
<br />
I drew the winner using Random.org and I left out the first and the last comment. Karen wrote she didnt wanna enter and Malesawi, who is German, doesnt like Knusperflocken (*shakingmyheadindisbelieve*), hence Min 2 and Max 9. You just have to believe me here ;-)<br />
<br />
So, the lucky winner is:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-owZC-L3iico/T4s950dRKUI/AAAAAAAACBg/kPlIKu2XeCc/s1600/Giveaway+Friday+13th.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-owZC-L3iico/T4s950dRKUI/AAAAAAAACBg/kPlIKu2XeCc/s1600/Giveaway+Friday+13th.bmp" /></a></div>
Number 5!!!!<br />
That is Katie! Woohoo!<br />
Katie and I have so many things in common - even looking at Friday the 13th as a lucky day!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I guess I need you real address now ;-)<br />
<br />
Good night everybody or good morning (whatever it is for you). Have a great week!<br />

I was born on a 13th (nope, not a Friday ;-) it was a Saturday).<br />
And once in a while my birthday is on a Friday (no, not today ;-)<br />
Actually my 33rd birthday will be on a Friday the 13th.<br />
<br />
And just because of this date I thought I am gonna do a tiny tiny giveaway for all of you who got a sweet tooth and have been asking me about<br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b>Knusperflocken!!!!</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UTfdT11jDkk/T4iQiQnmTaI/AAAAAAAACBY/3UJzQiueMjc/s1600/Knusperflocken1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UTfdT11jDkk/T4iQiQnmTaI/AAAAAAAACBY/3UJzQiueMjc/s400/Knusperflocken1.jpg" width="257" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My all time favorite candy!<br />
Some of you asked me what it is like. <br />
Well, they look like tiny chocolate mountains. I always put at least 2 in my mouth ;-)<br />
<br />
What makes them special is their consitancy: it's a mix of chocolate and Crisp bread or hard bread (Swedish: knäckebröd, hårt bröd, hårdbröd, spisbröd, Danish: knækbrød, Norwegian: knekkebrød, Finnish: näkkileipä, hapankorppu, Icelandic: hrökkbrauð, <u>German: Knäckebrot or Knäcke</u>)<br />
You dont taste any of the bread and there are also no big pieces of it, but it makes the chocolat a bit "sandy" which I absolutely love <strike>and causes other people to hate my beloved Knusperflocken</strike> ;-)<br />
<br />
Knusperflocken were very popular in East Germany! But after the Wall came down they were gone like almost all of the East German products. It took years until people started realizing that not everything from the GDR was bad. In 1995 Knusperflocken had their well deserved comeback!<br />
<br />
I was 14 and a friend of mine brought one of the lovely golden bags to school and with my first bite I had a major flashback! I had totally forgotten about them since you couldnt always get them in East Germany (and 6 years had passed) and all of a sudden all those memories came back and since then I am total addict ;-)<br />
<br />
So, for one lucky winner I will stuff a small bag of Knusperflocken into an envelope and send it to wherever you are!<br />
<br />
But be careful! If you get hooked I am not gonna be your dealer ;-)<br />
And your mailbox shouldnt be in the bright sunlight (sorry honey - you are out ;-)<br />
<br />
To enter just leave one comment (make sure I can notify you) and tell me your best story concerning Friday the 13th. You dont have to be a follower, but I would find that nice.<br />
I will pick a winner on Sunday late at night using Mr. RNG.<br />
<br />
Good luck!<br />

<br />
On Saturday, my mom and I went on a long planned nice little trip to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spreewald">The Spreewald</a>. It's only about 100 km south-east of Berlin. It's home to the descendants of the first settlers in the Spreewald region, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_peoples">Slavic</a> tribes of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbs">Sorbs</a>/<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wends">Wends</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BT7fMOuyEYc/T4IMUhfkl0I/AAAAAAAACAY/6kXXJahLqIM/s1600/100_9556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BT7fMOuyEYc/T4IMUhfkl0I/AAAAAAAACAY/6kXXJahLqIM/s400/100_9556.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This is what it looks like there. There are more than 200 of these channels and the main way of transportation is by boats like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q3H1f4X5Y18/T4IMQ6mJo1I/AAAAAAAACAQ/_yiFEtfkJsw/s1600/100_9555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q3H1f4X5Y18/T4IMQ6mJo1I/AAAAAAAACAQ/_yiFEtfkJsw/s400/100_9555.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Geraman Wikipedia says that between April and Oktober the postman only comes by boat!<br />
This would be the garage ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aac4D6lM6D0/T4IMHx-sqyI/AAAAAAAAB_4/Ee0bLjr65vc/s1600/07042012886.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aac4D6lM6D0/T4IMHx-sqyI/AAAAAAAAB_4/Ee0bLjr65vc/s400/07042012886.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the Spreewald's specialties are <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spreewald_gherkins"><b>Spreewald gherkins</b></a>, which have been prepared there for hundreds of years.<br />
That's why each year in July there is a competition for The Pickle Queen, who I had the pleasure to meet yesterday:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M7RYVXCgZ-Y/T4IMNvrxc8I/AAAAAAAACAI/9FZxjE79Xd4/s1600/100_9554.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M7RYVXCgZ-Y/T4IMNvrxc8I/AAAAAAAACAI/9FZxjE79Xd4/s400/100_9554.JPG" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Pickle Queen in her Traditional Dress</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The Sorbs of the Spreewald preserved a lot of their old traditions. Especially one of them is
the reason why it's a very popular place to visit around Easter. They make the most beautiful intricate eggs using a very old technique, which I've been wanting to learn for the longest time.<br />
Yesterday I had my chance!!!!<br />
<br />
The queen and two very sweet girls (former queen and vize queen as well) who were all my age taught me how to do it.<br />
Here is what it's supposed to look like: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PQMICVJ544w/T4IVDIhD09I/AAAAAAAACA4/khPsOIBsjp8/s1600/07042012881.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PQMICVJ544w/T4IVDIhD09I/AAAAAAAACA4/khPsOIBsjp8/s400/07042012881.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
And this is what I came up with and I have to say I'm very proud of it ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i8ugPegJCi8/T4IVRQhFsjI/AAAAAAAACBQ/wlCP18yllKo/s1600/08042012898.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i8ugPegJCi8/T4IVRQhFsjI/AAAAAAAACBQ/wlCP18yllKo/s400/08042012898.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
With this technique you use goose feathers that are cut in a certain way to apply bee's wax onto the egg shell. It's kinda like batik dyeing. Whatever the wax covers stays white when you dip the egg into the yellow dye. Then you apply more wax ornamants to preserve some of the yellow before you dunk it in orange. I did one more layer of wax before I stopped with red. There are endless possibilities! I think it took me two hours and I was so happy my mom had the patience to give me all the time I needed. I was so thankful that I decided to give that egg to her. She was touched. For me it was a dream come true and from now on I will probably make at a couple of those each year.<br />
I also learned in a book that there is a small community of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wends_of_Texas">Wends in Texas </a>who also cultivated their traditions and even use patterns for the eggs that have been forgotten in the Spreewald! <br />
<br />
Here are two more pics showing similar but different techniques:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gaAGa03KWKo/T4IVNH9G5GI/AAAAAAAACBA/dHG77ziZHwY/s1600/07042012882.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gaAGa03KWKo/T4IVNH9G5GI/AAAAAAAACBA/dHG77ziZHwY/s400/07042012882.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here the ornaments are scratched into the already dyed eggs.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KTR7Mjvb7ag/T4IVQRVs0eI/AAAAAAAACBI/YynRH6HpJy4/s1600/07042012883.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KTR7Mjvb7ag/T4IVQRVs0eI/AAAAAAAACBI/YynRH6HpJy4/s400/07042012883.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is similar to what I did, but you use colored wax that stays on the eggs. Of course those eggs dont like hanging in the sun too much.</td></tr>

<span style="color: #999999;"> </span> <br />
<a href="http://acuppaandacatchup.com/2012/03/nesting-fabric-bowls-pattern/">Nova's new pattern</a> coming out on that day (or the day before) was fate. I went to bed on friday thinking that I would like to give my friend something handmade and preferably something useful since she just moved in with her boyfriend.<br />
<div style="color: #999999;">
<br /></div>
I woke up on Saturday, went on a little blog tour with my coffee and dicovered <a href="http://incolororder.blogspot.de/2012/03/nesting-fabric-bowls-pattern-giveaway.html">those bowls on Jeni's blog</a>.<br />
She had just tested that brand new pattern and it was perfect.<br />
Thanks to PayPal I could start cutting a few minutes later. Isn't that great?<br />
<br />
And here it is:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P_bMYJCYFMk/T4CeuI4YJqI/AAAAAAAAB_g/SPWjoNSJz_g/s1600/Collage+Fabric+Bowls1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P_bMYJCYFMk/T4CeuI4YJqI/AAAAAAAAB_g/SPWjoNSJz_g/s400/Collage+Fabric+Bowls1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I made the three small ones (4x4", 5x5" and 6x6" bottom) and the biggest one is big enough to be worn as a hat (no, there are no silly pictures of that ;-)<br />
For the two biggest sizes you would need fabric that's bigger than a FQ, but for me it was a perfect opportunity to use some fabric that I've had for quite a while but hadn't found the perfect project for, yet.<br />
<br />
Happy Easter to everyone who is celebrating! Tomorrow or the day after I have a special Easter Egg post planed!<br />
<div style="color: #999999;">
